Letter to Valley Foursquare Family

September 5, 2017

Dear Church family,

It is with a heavy heart, but confident in God’s leading, that I am resigning as Lead Pastor of Valley Foursquare Church.

Holly and I have felt God stirring us to a new calling for the last several months, but it has only been in the last couple weeks that we have really felt the Lord saying that our season at the church and in Duvall is coming to a close.  It is vital to me that you understand that this is not your fault or that we are leaving because of you.  In fact, you are the reason that this decision is so difficult.  Our love for you and this city is huge.  This is God doing something new in Holly and I and in our kids.

Though I believe there are many unhealthy reasons to leave a church family (all of us have seen those), I also believe there are a few godly reasons to leave a church.  In 2008, God spoke to Holly and I to leave where we were serving and come to Duvall for this assignment.  God has done some amazing things and will continue to do amazing things through this church in connection with that decision.  This move for us is simply God giving us a new assignment.  We are doing our best to be faithful to that stirring.

For the last 9 years, we have done our best to live out the vision God gave us of loving God and loving people here in Duvall.  It has been our absolute pleasure and privilege.  Our hope is that we have been a gift to you.  I know that you have been a gift to us.  I am a better servant-hearted leader and pastor because of you.  I have never taken it for granted to be able to speak into your life on a regular basis whether its on Sunday morning, in a life group, or one on one at Starbucks.

We love you.  We are not abandoning you.  We strongly believe that Valley Foursquare’s best days are ahead.  That will involve you staying connected and serving well.  If you’ve been here for any time at all, you know how strongly I believe that EVERY person is a minister and has a calling on their life to make a difference in this world.  God has placed you here in this season and that is not an accident.  So, please stay the course and serve with the gifts and talents God has given you.

So, what’s next?  We have a wonderful family of churches that you are a part of.  The Foursquare Church shines brightly in these moments of transition.  God has already gifted our church with Dr. Jim Hayford to serve as interim pastor for the next 3 months.  He will also be bringing a worship leader to serve you.  I couldn’t be happier about this.  Pastor Jim was my supervisor who appointed me to this assignment 9 years ago.  He knows this church well and is already working on a transition plan and wants to meet with you throughout the next few weeks to get to know you better.

Additionally, our District Supervisor, Dave Veach, will work closely with our church council and myself to help find the next pastor to serve this church.  We have a strong church council.  I encourage you to go to them with any questions.  Dave Veach is a man of integrity and a pastor’s pastor.  I encourage you to pray for him and our church council as a pastoral search is conducted to find the best fit for the church moving forward.

What’s next for the Schlecht’s?  Our new assignment will be serving as an associate pastor with Living Water Church in Olympia.  I am very excited to be able to pour my heart into life groups and connecting new comers into the life of the church through serving.  We will moving to Olympia shortly.  Holly and I will be here and available Sunday, September 10th,17th, 24th and October 1st.  Our last Sunday serving as your pastor will be October 1.  We would really be blessed by your attendance these next few weeks to process this with you.

I have LOVED being your pastor.
